Is JianTan a convenient location to stay at? Looking at the MTR map its close to shilin but a distance away from the city centre. I’m only staying there as there is availability of hotels for 3 of the 6 day I want. I’m thinking should I just book and relocate to more central hotel near ZhongXiaoFuXing for the other 3 or should I stay in JianTan for the entire 6 days?

Hi giraffez,

This is Cassie from Taipei-Vacation.com : ) We are working as freelance trip advisor, aiming at planning and designing personalized  tours for overseas travelers.

Jiantan is a good choice if your aim is the Shinlin night market. :P I’ve personally stayed at Jiantan CYC center for more than 4 summers as I was a counselor for OCAC Expatriate Youth Taiwan Study Tour. =) They have renovated the guest rooms in the recent years, so the new accommodation building is modern and clean. Each room can accommodate 4-6 people. However, if your group is less than 3 people, they will accommodate you at the old accommodation building which may be less modern but should not be a problem for comfortable budget stay.

As for the room fee, it depends on what kind of room type (e.g. how many people) and your travel dates. You can see their room overview on the website. However, they are extremely popular as they are positioning as youth center accommodation. Also, it is hard to expect which actual room they will assign to you. What you see on the web page will not be necessary the room they finally assign.

If you are looking for some other option, we have a good partner who is running a serviced apartment near by Shualien MRT station (3 MRT stops to Shinlin night market, 2 stops to Main station). It is much closer to the city center and all the shopping area with similar price. If you mention you are referred by Cassie on Tripadvisor I can personally ask for another exclusive discount for you. : )

You can check out more apartment pics & guest reviews about Central Taipei Serviced Apartment on TripAdvisor.

Hope it helps! : )

Enjoy Taipei!!!
Cassie
